Stanton
Dr. Stanton received
his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Sciences and Ruminant Nutrition from
the University of Nebraska in 1975 and 1977, respectively. He received
his Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition at Oklahoma State University in
1980. Dr. Stanton has been Extension Feedlot Specialist at Colorado
State University since 1980.
His extension
program, in part, has been directed at working with the Colorado
Livestock Association. He serves as an ex-officio member of their
Board of Directors which allows participation in and planning of
successful educational seminars and research projects that are
supported by the industry.
A cooperative
research effort was established by Dr. Stanton, whereby cattle
producers and feeders retain ownership of cattle that are used
in research trials at Colorado State University. To date, there
have been 43 trials involving 59 cooperators with over 8100 head
of cattle. Projects have included the following: (1) grain processing,
(2) economics of managing pregnant heifers in the feedyard, (3)
the additivity of MGA and implants with finishing heifers, (4)
feedbunk management/restricted feeding, (5) dietary phosphorus
level, growth performance and nutrient content of manure and (6)
trace mineral type and level in receiving and finishing diets.
Dr. Stanton
received the 1990 Western Section American Society of Animal Science
Extension Award. He presently serves on the editorial board of
The Professional Animal Scientist. |
