The mission of any youth quality assurance program should be to maximize consumer confidence and acceptance of the food products produced via youth livestock projects. If the youth project produces a food product (ex. meat, milk, or eggs), directly or indirectly (even breeding projects), then youth need to participate in quality assurance programming. This online tutorial is designed to re-certify youth who have already attended a Colorado Youth MQA program in their county. This tutorial describes methods for the youth to incorporate the aforementioned programs in their projects to ensure that a safe food product is marketed from their project (generally at fair time). Before completing this tutorial - visit with your county extension educator or ag teacher and get their approval for you to re-certify using this website. To re-certify, you must successfully complete the annual checklist and quiz at the end of the tutorial! Print off these documents and complete them, take them to your educator for grading and approval. Youth livestock projects are designed to promote youth development. Youth benefit from these programs by learning responsibility, developing character, and learning about food production. However, the youth livestock project does not just benefit the youth, the entire family can benefit and learn from the livestock project. It is important that all family members learn the TQM system for youth livestock projects, to ensure the satisfaction of the consumer and the future of youth livestock projects.
